The New Unabridged
English-Persian Dictionary (5 volumes) by Abbas Aryanapur, Manoochehr Aryanpur
we really need to understand
IRAN and the Persian / Farsi culture:
Here are snippets (from
various sources) of some discussions and a list of great
dictionaries:
1. Iran is a
multilingual and diverse cultural society, and the majority of the
population is extremely young. Nearly one-half of the people speak Farsi,
and another one-fourth speak some other Indo-European language or
dialect.
2. Iran is a country in southwestern Asia. It
has an area of 636,300 square miles (1,648,000 square kilometres). It is
bounded on the north by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, and the Caspian
Sea, on the east by Pakistan and Afghanistan, on the south by the Persian
Gulf and the Gulf of Oman,
3. Farsi is a Persian language - member
of the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian language family; it is the
official language of Iran. It is most closely related to Middle and Old
Persian, former languages of the region of Fars ("Persia") in southwestern
Iran. Modern Persian is thus called Farsi by native speakers.
4.
Remember -- UNDERSTANDING THE LANGUAGE and the PEOPLE, can only lead to
better interactions and a better future for all, so look at the books on
Iran/Persia, and consider getting truly familiar with the language.

persian language slowly and throughly as to allow the reader a
challenging read but not an overwhelming one. I recommend this book
to anyone who is wanting to see a world never seen before or only
dreamed of.

Tajik-English/English-Tajik Dictionary & Phrasebook
Joseph Conroy / Paperback /
Published 1998 -- The author writes: " Tajik is closely related to
Farsi (Modern Persian), but with many Russian and Uzbeki loanwords. Our
purpose in producing this book was to provide Western visitors and
businessmen with a trustworthy series of sentences about various
everyday situations. Throughout the book there are notes on Tajik
culture and history. In this century alone, Tajik has been written in
three alphabets: Arabic, Roman, and Cyrillic (Russian). "
